A Summary of Trauma and Somatic Experiencing by Dr Peter Levine

SOSI cherishes the diversity of humanity, a diversity which includes differences in age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identity and expression, range of abilities, education, and political perspective.  Our intention is to foster a climate of growth and mutual respect, a learning environment where all are valued, all are respected.

We focus on creating a learning environment that facilitates connection through our shared humanity while creating space for each participant's own individual and cultural experience. We hold the intention of meeting every participant with the spirit of cultural humility, which includes learning, accountability and growth in response to oversights, mistakes and/or errors. We strive to meet each other with curiosity and acceptance so that difference can support connection.

The SE® training is not a process workshop. It is a trauma training.  Although personal and collective trauma may be explored and/or resolved, the purpose of this training is to learn Somatic Experiencing® principles. You and others will most likely be activated, while also learning the principles of SE® to work with that activation, regardless of the source.  This is a professional workshop and will remain focused on clinical learning while fostering an environment that has the potential to increase resilience and connection.  We believe in this way we, as you, will best serve everyone, everywhere and at all times.

What some of our students say…

Participants will gain, a firm grounding in the knowledge of innate survival responses, resourcing, the Polyvagal Theory of Stephen Porges, coupling dynamics and working with the ‘felt sense’ of the body. You will develop skills of well-paced dialogue, being in the resonance with the client, gentle psychotherapeutic and body-oriented interventions that work directly with the neurophysiology of the body plus supportive touch work. The many practical exercises enable the participant to safely and effectively apply the knowledge within a clinical context.

These practical skills will be enhanced by the participant’s own explorations and experience of the work, supported by supervision from the SE practitioner assistants. Skills and concepts learned in each module can be applied immediately to your professional practice. To find out more about the course curriculum click here.
